Creating text slides for your iMovie project is easy. There are couple of ways to do it, one involving the text features of iMovie, and the other involving an outside program to create the text slides. This page takes you through the process of using Keynote to create your text slides.

  1. Open Keynote. When the program opens, choose a theme. You should choose a theme that allows large text. Typically, dark colored or plain themes work best.

  2. In Keynote, create the text slides you need to create.
    • The first slide that appears is usually the title slide. Create your title slide by typing your project’s title and your name into the text fields on the title slide.
    • Click on the “New” button in the top left to add a new slide. You will need another slide for your resources slide, or any other text slides.

If you wish to choose a different formatting for your new slide, click on the “Masters” button. Avoid changing the theme; you should use the same theme for all text slides in the project.
  3. Edit your slides to your liking. You must finish the slides in Keynote; you will not be able to edit them in iMovie.
  4. Once you are done editing, you will send your slides to iPhoto. Go to the “File” menu. Choose “Send to >” and select “iPhoto…”

Do not change any of the options at the pop-up prompt (choose “NEXT”). At the second prompt, give your export a name, like “DigiStory”.

    • If iPhoto opens, disregard it. You only send your slides to iPhoto so that you can access them in iMovie.
  5. Your text slides will now appear in the media browser in the lower right corner of iMovie (click on the camera icon to see your images, and click on iPhoto to see the images you sent to iPhoto).

  6. Add your text slides the same way you add any other images. See directions in DST: Starting an iMovie Project, starting with #6 on that page.
