In order to create an online portfolio of your career shadow project information, you must first have the following items created in your googledocs account.
- Portfolio documents
- Career Shadow Interview … “lastname_shadow_interview”
- Post Observation Overview … “lastname_postobs”
- Career Research Overview … “lastname_research”
- Thank You Letter … “lastname_thankyou”
- Portfolio homepage … “lastname_portfolio”
Once those steps are complete, you are ready to publish and link your portfolio documents (not the homepage, yet). Follow these directions for each document.
- Open the document in googledocs in a new browser tab.
- Go to the googledocs “File” menu and click on “Publish to the web.”

- Make sure both the “Automatically republish when changes are made” box and the “Require viewers to sign in with their EASD account” box are selected (checked), and then click the “Start publishing” button …

- Once published, click on the “Document Link” to select the ENTIRE link (NOT THE EMBED CODE). Hold down command/apple and tap the “c” key to copy the entire document link.

- Now open the portfolio home page (lastname_portfolio) in googledocs, find the name of the document that you just published to the web. Highlight the name.
- Click on “Link” in the googledocs toolbar
. In the pop-up box, paste the URL in the form field labeled “URL” and then click insert. This should make the name of the document into a link to that sub page. - Repeat these steps for each of the documents.
Once you are done linking your documents on the home page, you will be ready to publish and link your home page. Follow these steps below for your home page.
- Open your home page in googledocs.
- Follow steps 2-through-4 in the above set of directions, resulting in having your homepage’s published URL copied.
- At the bottom of each of your sub pages, add the words “Click here to return to portfolio home” and make them an active link to your portfolio home page.
- Open a new tab in your browser. Direct this new tab to http://tinyurl.com.

- At tinyurl, paste the home page URL into the “long URL” form field. Before clicking the “Make TinyURL” button, type a name for your TinyURL below. For your EAHS career shadow project, make the name follow this convention “lastname1acareer”. Change it to match your last name, Core Comm. section, and career of interest.
- Submit your portfolio’s full TinyURL to your teacher for credit on this assignment.
